Don’t you think winters are made especially for mugs full of sinfully delicious hot chocolate or mocha delights to keep you warm and happy throughout the cold-blue season? It’s true that nothing warms you up like a steaming cup of chocolate or spiced coffee topped with cream during winter, but at the same time, we cannot deny the fact that these drinks aren’t always the best for your waistline as well.
We know it’s the season that calls for comfort foods, and considering the weather a few extra calories can be waved off as well. However, since we aren’t going to compromise on the calorie loaded foods this season, might as well care a little about the drinks that seem harmless but come heavily loaded with calories.
When it comes to drinks, it’s a little tricky that we take them for granted thinking its just a drink. They are so warm and comforting, we tend to overdo it resulting in some serious weight gain by the end of this season. There come the perks of being a part of a culinary school, where we not only get to know food a little better but our coffee and drinks too. Read on to know more about the guilt-free drink options to keep you toasty this winter.
1. Hot Chocolate
When we said healthy, you thought we are going to talk about green juices? How boring do you think we are? Come on guys, its winter and how can we do it without hot chocolate? Of course, it has to be there on the top of your list, but a little on the healthy side.
First and foremost make your hot chocolate at home and try to avoid the store bought ones as much as possible. Most of the cafes serve hot chocolate with full cream/double cream milk or even worse half-half, topped with whipped cream and loaded with sugar.
When you make it at home, it’s your recipe, so you get to choose your ingredients and create something much tastier and healthier than the store bought ones. Also, you are aware of the ingredients that we throw in our cup which by default make us choose the best quality products and you can even go for healthier options such as homemade almond milk, unsweetened cocoa powder, and brown sugar/maple syrup.
2. Turmeric Ginger Latte
A cup of warm turmeric latte is nothing but a medicinal detox which not only keeps you warm but will also help ward you off the seasonal colds and flu.
Ginger and turmeric, both have incredible anti-inflammatory properties, and this boosts your immune system. When mixed with spices such as cardamom and cinnamon with a dash of honey, this drink transforms itself into the most soothingly delicious medicinal drink ever that could be consumed on a regular basis. 4. Hot Lemon Water
Hot Lemon water is another great and easy way to cleanse your body. This drink with a subtle flavor is said to flush out the toxins from liver and kidney. It is so easy, all you have to do is to squeeze 1-2 lemon into some hot water and keep sipping it all day-everyday. Sure sounds like a great way to stay warm and healthy.
5. Russian Tea
This drink is more of a flavor celebration. It is a perfect blend of black tea, citrus fruit juices, apple juice, water and whole spices such as cinnamon and cloves that are boiled in step-by-step procedures to get a perfectly blended yet strong taste.
