ICCA Dubai having partnered with WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017, the premises was abuzz with preparation and excitement getting closer to the event, and being there for all the days of the WorldSkills competitions certainly was an experience unlike any other. The magnitude of the skills showcase and the fervour of the participants were as contagious as it was tough, as each contestant competed against the other from different countries across the globe to be judged as the best in their chosen skill.
ICCA Chef's Theatre at WorldSkills Abu Dhabi 2017
For team ICCA and its students, the WorldSkills competition was a platform to demonstrate to the world what we are skilled at and at the same time gather from the added experience the nuances that we could build upon to help take us a step further. Many of our students also supported the Culinary Competition behind the scenes, doing the necessary groundwork to help the contestants in their conquest for the champion’s title.
The highlight of the event for us was the ICCA Chefs’ Theatre, where our students’ mentored by their Chef Instructors demonstrated recipes to the spectators, where the interested audience was also encouraged to cook alongside our chefs at the purpose-built cooking stations in the arena. With over 24 cookery shows scheduled over four days, the visitors to the event got to learn, make and eat some lip-smacking food & desserts. And they loved it! Both children and elders alike.
ICCA student chefs did win over a lot of hearts and appreciation for their talent and zeal. It also exposed them to a new age world where mastering a skill is the way forward as we stand on the threshold of yet another industrial revolution.
