Walking through the same doors into the same kitchen in the same city everyday for over 27 years, Chef Uwe has touched many lives in the Hospitality Industry in the UAE, in the region, and around the world, and has changed them for the better.
Born in a small town, Celle, in northern Germany, and growing up on a farm, Uwe always knew, that the kitchen is where he belonged. He started cooking at the young age of 11 along with his grandmother and attended cooking classes at a time when the idea of men even being in the kitchen was not really the norm.
Pursuing his passion for cooking after high school, Uwe did a three-year apprenticeship at a local restaurant, followed by two years of service in the German Army as a Cook. From there, his professional career took off as he joined the InterContinental Hotel Group in Berlin, then moved on to London as Chef de Partie, Saucier, in Hyde Park London, Michelin Star Restaurant, Le Souffle, and the journey continued.
His love for different cuisines took him places around the world, and after his stints in Britain, Bahrain, South Korea, and Japan, it was in 1993 when Uwe moved to Dubai and since then he has been with Radisson Blu, Dubai Deira Creek, earlier known as the InterContinental and the rest is history.
Uwe is a beloved mentor to thousands of young chefs across the country, especially the ones lucky enough to land a job in his hotel for whom growth through learning & exposure and endless opportunities in the industry around the world is the way forward.
It would only be right to say that Uwe is passion, perseverance, sincerity, and dedication personified, and his contributions & achievements as the President of the Emirates Culinary Guild, Vice President of the WorldChefs, Conseiller Culinaire Commandeur Chaine des Rotisseurs, Bailliage National Emirats Arabes Unis and the Director of Kitchens, Radisson Blu, Dubai Deira Creek, by all means, are noteworthy and remarkable. The love, respect, and the influence he commands and yields in the industry around the world are evidence of the person he truly is.
It would only be right to say that mentoring is in his blood and that is what motivated him to envision and support the UAE’s first-ever culinary scholarship program, the annual over ‘One Million Dirham Continuing Education Award’ for the young industry chefs in the UAE, a first-of-its-kind innovative Education - Industry initiative undertaken by the International Centre for Culinary Arts - ICCA Dubai.
The program is about educating, training & certifying talented and deserving, but financially underprivileged young chefs in the UAE Hospitality Industry. This hands-on and dedicated scholarship program is designed to bridge the skills gap across the industry and strive for excellence while empowering the deserving chefs with an international qualification and helping bring about a total transformation in their lives.
